Everyone knows Mallorca in the summer. The beaches are full, the restaurants are busy, the sea is warm. It is beautiful — but it is also crowded.

What most people do not know is that the best time to be on the water around Mallorca is not July or August. It is September and October.

The Sea is Still Warm

After three months of summer sun, the Mediterranean reaches its warmest temperatures in late August and September. Water temperatures around Mallorca in September typically sit between 24°C and 26°C — warmer than the Caribbean at the same time of year.

October cools slightly, but it is still very much swimming weather, especially in the afternoon.

The Crowds Are Gone

By mid-September, the summer rush is over. The most popular anchorages — places like Cala Figuera, Sa Calobra, and Cala Mondragó — are quiet again. You can drop anchor in a cove that was wall-to-wall with boats a few weeks earlier and have it almost entirely to yourself.

The same goes for restaurants, ports, and beaches. The island returns to a more relaxed pace, which is a big part of what makes it so special in the first place.

The Light is Different

There is something about the quality of light in early autumn that photographers know and everyone else feels without quite naming it. The sun is lower, the shadows are longer, and the golden hours are genuinely golden. If you are taking photos on the water — and you will be — September and October light is extraordinary.

The Wind is Better for Sailing

Summer in Mallorca brings the Embat, a reliable sea breeze that fills in most afternoons. It is good, but it is predictable. In autumn, the wind patterns become more varied and often more interesting — better conditions for those who want to actually sail, not just motor between coves.

Prices Are Lower

Peak season pricing usually runs from late June through August. By September, most charter companies — including us — offer more flexible pricing. You get the same yacht, the same crew, and the same experience, often at a better rate.

Our Recommendation

If you can be flexible with your dates, aim for mid-September to mid-October. The weather is reliable, the island is at its most authentic, and the sea is at its best. It is, honestly, our favourite time of year to be on the water.
